Summary

This layer is intended to be used as an informal means of spatially aggregating data collected by an array of regional teams monitoring drought effects upon California Streams. These informal regions are not definitive boundaries nor are they representative of any jurisdictional delineations of territory. These subregions are based upon spatially coherent subdivisions of California Department of Fish and Wildlife's seven geographically-defined administrative regions.

Description

This layer is intended to be used as an informal means of spatially aggregating data collected by an array of regional teams monitoring drought effects upon California Streams. These informal regions are not definitive boundaries nor are they representative of any jurisdictional delineations of territory. These subregions are based upon spatially coherent subdivisions of California Department of Fish and Wildlife's seven geographically-defined administrative regions. A circular polygon has been added to the west of california in order to provide a spatial gateway for accessing statewide datasets and the full drought monitoring report.

Description
Assembled the layer from the following sources: 24K Counties (cnty24k97_1 - the official CMCC/CDF-FRAP 1997 version); 100K Major Roads (mjroads - from USBR Sacramento, unknown publication date); 24K Legal Delta Boundary (delta_legal - from DWR, published 20010607); Coastlines for Anacapa and Santa Barbara Islands from the 24K California Coastline layer (State Lands Commission, published 1994); Three Nautical Mile Line (Approved Maritime Limits for California, USA) version 1.0, published 2005; and Three Nautical Mile Line (Approved Maritime Limits for Oregon and Washington, USA) version 1.0, published 2005. A small gap of missing data existed between the CA and OR/WA Three Nautical Mile Line boundaries off the north coast of CA. This gap was filled in using interpolated data.

Some inaccuracies were discovered in the 24K county boundary linework and were corrected. The specific corrections were as follows: - San Francisco county boundary corrected to extend across the mouth of San Francisco bay instead of along the coastline. - Small changes along the Orange/Riverside county boundary confirmed per documented linework corrections in another dataset (co100a/county100k from the former Teale Data Center GIS Solutions Group). - Legal county boundary descriptions were also researched at ( http://www.leginfo.ca.gov )

Description
Previously there were 2 versions of the DFG Regions layer, one at high resolution, and one at medium resolution. The medium resolution one has been discontinued. The high resolution one has been renamed and is now the only DFG Regions layer. Also, some small inaccuracies in the DFG Region boundaries in various locations were corrected using linework from the current 24K county boundary layer (cnty24k09_1 - the official CAL FIRE/FRAP 2009 version). These corrections were done by DFG's Josh Little.
