The purpose of the NCCAG Wetland data set is to identify wetlands, streams, seeps, and springs that are commonly associated with groundwater in Californias 517 Groundwater Basins defined in Bulletin 118 (2016). The associated data are considered DWR enterprise GIS data, which meet all appropriate requirements of the DWR Spatial Data Standards, specifically the DWR Spatial Data Standard version 2.1, dated March 9, 2016. The features in the data set were not created by DWR. Data were originally developed by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and Andy Zdon and Associates, Inc. Features in the NCCAG dataset were merely extracted from these sources under a set of defined rules and procedures. DWR makes no warranties or guarantees either expressed or implied as to the completeness, accuracy, or correctness of the data. DWR neither accepts nor assumes liability arising from or for any incorrect, incomplete, or misleading subject data. The official DWR subject matter expert for this data set is Amy Lyons, who may be contacted at 530-528-7439, or at amy.lyons@water.ca.gov. The official DWR GIS Steward for this data set is Wyatt Arnold, who may be contacted at 916-653-4849, or at wyatt.arnold@water.ca.gov. Comments, problems, improvements, updates, or suggestions should be forwarded to the subject matter expert or GIS Steward as available and appropriate.
The Natural Communities Commonly Associated with Groundwater (NCCAG) Wetland dataset is a compilation of regularly flooded natural wetlands and riverine areas as well as springs and seeps extracted from 3 publicly available federal data sets. The extracted wetland and stream features are commonly associated with groundwater due to their flooding frequency or classification as a perennial hydrologic feature. Springs and seeps are commonly associated with groundwater because they are locations where groundwater naturally emerges at the ground surface.

This dataset does not prove or make any claim about the nature and/or extent of ecosystem groundwater dependence for any mapped location. Positive identification of a groundwater dependent ecosystem requires detailed understanding of groundwater levels, hydrology, and geology of an area which is not within the scope or purpose of this dataset. The data in the NCCAG dataset do not preempt the authority of local land use agencies. The data in the NCCAG dataset do not alter or infringe upon existing water rights.
