Summary

This layer depicts the Energy Policy Act of 2005, Section 368 energy corridor areas that were designated on federal lands in the Western 11 states. Additional attributes were added to allow for analysis and map products.

Description

This layer depicts areas which have been designated (per the requirements of Section 368 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005) as West-wide energy corridors in Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service Records of Decision in connection with the final Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement, Designation of Energy Corridors on Federal Land in the 11 Western States, November 2008. The layer was intersected with surface management agency, BLM field office, and state layers to add more tabular attributes.

Lineage

Lineage statement
This layer was compiled from many sources, and is based on a set of centerline connections between energy supply and demand areas. Polygons in the layer were made by: 1) Creating a buffer around a centerline at a defined width, 2) Integrating polygons received from a project participant, 3) Combining or editing the above to avoid protected lands and to correct topology issues, and/or 4) Truncating or removing areas found to occur on non-federal land.To add attributes needed for analysis, the sec368zone layer was intersected with 1) surface management agency, 2) BLM field office, and 3) state layers. In the output layer the corridors were then split at each location the agency, field office, or state changed, and the values from those input layers were included. The table was subsequently cleaned up to remove extra fields that were present in the input layers but not needed in the output. This layer is a compilation of many sources from many offices in several federal agencies. Inquiries should be directed to the federal land management agency or agencies with jurisdiction over the lands in the area of interest.
